CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela – Tabuk City participated in the International Smart and Sustainable Cities and Communities Exposition and Networking Engagement recently at the Isabela Convention Center (ICON) in Cauayan City, Isabela.
The theme of this year’s exhibition is Synergy Unleashed: Becoming Smart and Sustainable, and it is being attended by some city government personnel, including Erwin Manadao, head of CICT, Tabuk Smart City focal person Aurora Amilig, Dixie Catacutan, head of DOST Kalinga Office, Dr. Lope Buen heading the Kalinga State University delegation and participants from the Kalinga Electric Cooperative ( KAELCO).
Renato Solidum, Jr., Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, spoke as the keynote speaker during the event and said that local government units (LGUs) can interact with other institutions and learn about the idea of smart and sustainable cities as well as the innovations and technology available.
He underscored that the event will open up different cities to more collaborations and partnerships with different institutions.
According to him, the population of the country is increasing, and those places eyeing smart cities must adapt to the need for more technological advances and innovations to cater to the needs of their constituents.
With the support of the government and the local government units, there is a need to invest as well as develop smart and sustainable cities in the country, he stated.
Moreover, in Tabuk City, Smart City focal person, Aurora Amilig said that they will continue to collaborate more with the DOST and other funding institutions to pursue the city’s dream of being a sustainable smart city.
She added that the city, through Mayor Darwin Estrañero’s administration, will link to more investors that will help improve the city’s needs through innovations and more advanced technologies.
The exposition is attended by personalities from various government agencies, local government units, academe, and private institutions nationwide. Other foreign diplomats and smart and sustainable cities experts with diverse knowledge in technological innovations were also present.
The exposition will end on April 13, 2024, with bench-marking activities in Cauayan City. By Ian Jefrey Addatu
