BONTOC, Mountain Province – Mayor Jerome Chagsen Tudlong, Jr. remains hopeful that the solutions lined up for the town’s water problem will be realized soonest so that residents and visitors will not encounter problems on the supply in the future.
Tudlong said that the municipal government already established linkages with concerned government agencies to access the assistance needed to support the implementation interventions geared towards solving the water problem of the locality which had been ongoing for several years now.
“We do not want to preempt whatever the assistance that will be provided by the concerned government agencies that is why we are waiting for the proper time to make public the programs, projects and activities that solve the existing water problem in our municipality,” Mayor Tudlong stressed.
He disclosed the initial intervention conducted by the municipal government was to replace the old water pipes from the source in barangay Talubin with much bigger ones to bring the water to the storage tank for distribution to the households.
However, the municipal chief executive admitted there are some residents in one of the sitios in barangay Talubin who are opposed to the pumping of the water from the source to the town proper because they will not be supplied with potable water, thus, the need for the municipal government to address their concerns to avoid the opposition to the project that can permanently solve the water supply problem of the locality.
According to him, one of the major thrusts of the municipal government is to work out a permanent solution to the long-standing water supply problem so that more investors will be enticed to establish their businesses in the municipality to spur sustainable economic growth and provide employment opportunities and sources of livelihood for the qualified constituents.
“Water is one of the essential needs of our people for their daily activities that is why we are trying our best to work out a lasting solution to the inadequate water supply experienced by our communities. We hope that our proposed interventions will be realized the soonest to be able to ensure continuous water supply for our constituents,” Mayor Tudlong added.
The mayor explained the water source has already been identified, the distribution pipes had already been increased to 6 inches in diameter but what remains to be addressed is the demand of residents in a community traversed by the distribution lines for them to be provided with water supply which is the one being closely given attention by the municipal government and concerned government agencies so that they will no longer oppose the passing through of the distribution pipes in their community.
He assured the residents of the municipality that updates on this project will be made as soon as there will be a positive development in the ongoing undertakings to implement the projects towards permanently solving the water supply problem of the municipality and ensure the steady supply of water for the increasing population.
