BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Bontoc Local Government Unit (LGU) continues to show unwavering support to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) by recently turning over a portable water pump to be used in hard-to-reach areas.
Bontoc Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., along with personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), Municipal Budget Office, and Municipal Accounting Office handed over the one-unit of the portable water pump with accessories amounting to P28, 500 to the personnel from the Bontoc Municipal Fire Station (MFS) during First Quarter meeting of the MDRRM Council on February 20, 2024.
This important addition to the logistics of the Bontoc MFS is intended to boost the operational capabilities of the BFP, specifically in responding to fire incidents in areas where the height of the fire trucks poses limitations, especially in residential areas.
It is to be noted that during the council’s meeting on September 23, 2023, INSP. Cesar Badang, Jr., the former Fire Marshall of the Bontoc MFS requested for possible allocation of budget from the DRRRM Fund for the procurement of a portable water pump to be used by the bureau.
Mayor Tudlong has shown strong support for this request, recognizing the importance of equipping the BFP with the necessary tools to effectively carry out their duties, thus he approved the request of INSP Badang. The funding for this essential equipment was sourced from the 5% Calamity Fund, highlighting the commitment of the Bontoc LGU to support the BFP in its mission to ensure the safety and security of the community.
“This is part of our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the community. We have to invest in disaster preparedness and response measures that will benefit the public at large. Let us continue to support and empower our local fire departments and emergency responders, recognizing the critical role they play in keeping our communities safe. Together, we can build a more resilient and prepared society for a better tomorrow,” the mayor remarked.
In response, FINSP Gilbert Ngaya-an, Acting Municipal Fire Marshall of Bontoc MFS extended his utmost gratitude to the Bontoc LGU under the leadership of Mayor Tudlong for the continuous support to the bureau.
He pledged for the Bontoc MFS to take good care of the turned-over water pump adding that it will enhance their operational capabilities, especially in catering to the safety and wellbeing of the residents. By Alpine L. Killa-Malwagay
