BONTOC, Mountain Province – Learners in this capital town now have more access to reference and reading materials on economic and financial knowledge and information.
This, as publications such as books, reports, guides, manuals, primers and brochures on economic and financial issues and concepts are now made available to the public to read for free at the Bontoc Municipal Library, Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC) Library and Xijen College of Mountain Province Library.
To ensure that the reference materials are to be used for its intended purpose, the BSP represented by Beta Cervantes, the Officer in Charge of BSP – La Union Regional Office inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Bontoc Municipal Government represented by Mayor Franklin Odsey, MPSPC represented by College Rexton Chakas and XIJEN College of Mountain Province represented by President Helen Fagsao on November 20, 2018 at the Bontoc Municipal Capitol.
Mayor Odsey thanked the BSP for bringing their other services closer to the people by providing reference and reading materials that will help students in their researches at the same time adding knowledge especially on economic and financial concerns.
In his message, Cervantes explained that the BSP aims to partner with libraries of the local government units, national agencies and academic institutions all over the country through the Knowledge Resource Network (KRN).
She added that the BSP envisions KRN to be a catalyst for economic development by empowering the public to make informed and better economic and financial decision through easy access to information and services.
In response, Chakas and Fagsao both expressed their gratitude to the BSP for the reading materials which they acknowledged to be of great help to the students.
In the MOU signed between Cervantes and Odsey, and witnessed by Acting Bank Officer III Therese Ethel Reade Jularbal of BSP- La Union Regional Office and Librarian Chamreine Casiwen of the Bontoc Municipal Library, it was stipulated that the Bontoc Municipal Government through its Municipal Library continually acquires information resources to meet the research and information needs of its academic community; at the same time recognizes that it is mutually beneficial to exchange and share information resources and services to satisfy the research information requirements of its clients .
The Bontoc Municipal Library is located at the 3rd Floor of the new Bontoc Municipal Capitol.
