ITOGON, Benguet – Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap said that he will closely work with the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) to enhance the internet connectivity in the different parts of the province to allow learners to be able to avail of the various facets of blended learning that had been embraced by the education department.
Yap, who chairs the powerful House Committee on Appropriations, disclosed that there is a company that is interested to provide free wifi connectivity in the province to help in the government’s ongoing efforts to improve the internet connections in remote areas in the country that will serve as a driver of growth and development in the countryside.
He claimed that his office will be closely coordinating with the DOE and BENECO to allow the interested company to install free wifi facilities on its electric posts to ensure that people in the rural areas will be able to access the internet for various purposes that will make their daily transactions with concerned agencies, local government offices and the private sector much easier.
Congressman Yap claimed that in exchange for the free wifi connectivity, the DOE and BENECO will allow the company to broadcast their advertisements every 30 minutes without unduly interrupting the connectivity in the different areas.

According to him, the free wifi connectivity in the province must be rolled out the soonest so that learners will be able to avail of the benefits of blended learning as part of the new normal system of education this coming schoolyear.
Congressman yap stated that the company that is offering to provide the necessary facilities for free wifi connectivity in the countryside will maximize the utilization of the latest technology to enhance connectivity beneficial to the people of Benguet.
Based on the survey conducted by the education department, most learners from the different parts of the province opted for the printed modules as their mode of learning for the schoolyear 2020-2021.
The caretaker congressman pointed out that the availability of internet connectivity in the rural areas of the province will also contribute in efforts to drumbeat the needed development in the said places purposely to trigger economic activities and enhance the sources of livelihood of the people.
He assured the people of the province that he will continue to work to bring the desired development interventions in the remote villages of the province where internet connectivity is one of the aspects of growth that they want to provide the residents for them to have the updated information on what is happening in the different parts of the world and use the same for productive activities that will spur rural development.
Yap emphasized that all the development efforts in the province that are currently being undertaken is part of the efforts to improve the current status of the province and make it as one of the first class provinces in the country.
