The local government expressed the gratitude of the people and officialdom to the twenty two young volunteers from Incheon, South Korea who rendered more than a week of purely volunteers work in the city as part of inculcating to them the importance of the spirit of voluntarism in dealing with the challenges of the modern world.
City Social Welfare and Development Officer Liza Bulayungan said that the young Korean volunteers were sent off through a simple ceremony organized by the city as a way of the local government’s expression of gratitude to them for doing volunteer work at the Kayang Extension child development center.
She claimed that the latest batch of young Korean volunteers is the fifth since the partnership between the local government and the Catholic Children and Youth Foundation started way back in 2016 which was formalized through a memorandum of agreement (MOA).
The City Social Welfare and Development officer disclosed that among the activities of the Koran volunteers in the child development center included painting, repair of damaged chairs and other fixtures, including comfort rooms and improvement of the learning environment that will make the facility better for the young learners from the barangay.
Further, she added that before leaving, the Korean volunteers purchased some materials that they left with the child development center to be used by the learners to advance their learning modules.
According to her, the local government did not spend a single centavo in the said endeavor because the young Korean volunteers were the ones that spent for their trip to the city and the materials that were used in the improvement of the child development center.
Bulayungan stipulated that the volunteers actually enjoyed their stay and work in the city in a short span of time as gleaned from their body language during the send off dinner organized for the said purpose.
