According to The City Veterinary and Services Office (CVSO), the first and second quarterly reports’ combined number of animals being catered as of this writing is 12,717, including dogs, cats, swine, bovine, bubaline, small rums/horses, poultry and others.
At least 22 barangays were visited this year for Veterinary Medical Mission (VMM), comprising the recently consulted barangays, Dilag, Dupag, and Bulanao Centro.
The VMM is an annual program of the CVSO where they reach out to clients in their barangays to offer services like deworming, anti-rabies and “anti-gudgud” vaccination, castration, and vitamins and antibiotics provision, consultation, and treatment.
The office’s active programs include genetic improvement such as farm animal artificial insemination. This year, 13 cows and 43 carabaos were successfully fertilized. They also provide a variety of technical help to farms, ranches, and livestock raisers in the City to inform owners of the necessary steps to adhere to the required farming standards.
Additionally, as of the time of this writing, according to Dr. Carmen Wanas, OIC City Veterinarian, their office accepts walk-ins every day for a number of pet services, including deworming and anti-rabies vaccination, among others, without charge. However, in order to comply with the City’s updated revenue legislation, the CVSO must charge a small fee after its approval.
Wanas said, “All pet owners should submit their pets for vaccination against rabies as it is for the public safety and in order for the city to achieve [diyay target tayo for Tabuk nga rabies free city by 2025.”
In the meantime, the regional office granted the CVSO a 5.5M contract for a “high tech babuyan” or bio-secured facility for hog farming. Only Tabuk, Uma, Lubuagan, and Balbalan have met the requirements for such programs among Kalinga municipalities.
In order to reduce the shortage of pork due to African swine fever (ASF), the project aims to raise 300 heads of finishers to produce enough market-size pigs. Once effectively implemented, it will also aid in decreasing the market value of pork.
The structure will be constructed in Brgy. Malalao and the Malalao Farmer’s Association will be in charge of running the same.
