LUNA, Apayao – A thrilling championship game of basketball women between Cluster II and Cluster IV was witnessed at the BGVJr. Memorial Sports Center today, September 27.
Cluster II, composed of DENR, BFP, DAR, NCIP, DA ROS, FNLGHTC, NFA, PCSO, TESDA, and PDOHO, outhustled Cluster IV to win the championship of the basketball women tournament of this year’s edition of the Philippine Civil Service Anniversary (PCSA) celebration in the province.
At the outset, Cluster II started out strong with a 6-1 lead early in the ball game. Cluster IV however mounted a huge rally, securing a three-point lead at the end of the first. The score, 17 – 14.
It was the second period where Cluster II showed dominance. Leading by six points at 23-17 in the first minutes of the second period, eventual tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP), Grace Alferez carried her team and outscored Cluster IV with a 19-3 run and ended the quarter with a comfortable 11-point advantage.

After the halftime break, Cluster II maintained their double-digit margin. The PNP led squad, however, are still within striking distance as they managed to trim the gap to 9 at the end of the third using their long range bombs and fast break conversions. Still, 51-42 in favor of Cluster II.
In the final frame, Alferez once again provided some spark for Cluster II as they finally secured the game and the championship with a final score of 71-55.
Cluster II takes home a PhP 50,000 cash prize for winning the championship. By JCM
