City officials recently commended and appreciated Sgt. Baguio City Tourist Police also known as Sgt. TO-PO, Baguio City Police Office’s first Tourist Police mascot for winning the hearts of residents and tourists as well as successfully improving the city’s police force image.
In a resolution, local legislators stated that Sgt. PO-PO has been highly in demand by the public since his first public appearance and continues to win the hearts of residents and visitors alike.
On March 3, 2023, Police Maj. Jeffrey E. Salvador spearheaded the launching of Baguio’s Finest Tourist Police mascot at the Tourist Police Unit located along Chanum Street, Baguio City.
Sgt. TO-PO is the first mascot conceptualized in the Police Regional Office–Cordillera with the rank of Police Staff Sergeant. The complete name of the mascot is Sgt. Baguio City Tourist Police, first name – Baguio, middle name – City, surname – Tourist Police also known as Sgt. Tourist Police or Sgt. TO-PO for short.
Further, Sgt. TO-PO was designed to promote a friendly image of the city police force and remove long-term misconceptions of children that police officers are monsters and incarcerators for naughty and errant youngsters.
It was conceptualized to win the hearts of the community as an environment advocate, city ordinances awareness guardian, protector of the weak and friend to all children.
The council claimed that the mascot successfully helped improve the overall image of the Philippine National Police (PNP), particularly the BCPO and Baguio’s Finest Tourist Police Unit based on the response to his community participation and growing number of invitations.
