TABUK CITY, Kalinga – As part of the Pre-Matagoan festivities, the City Veterinary Office (CVO), in partnership with the Biyaya Animal Care (BIYAYA), conducted a Veterinary Medical Mission at the Tabuk People’s Gymnasium.
According to City Veterinarian Dr. Carmen Wanas, the medical mission is a one-day celebration and that all services are free.
“One day lang po ito kasi after this, pupunta sila (BIYAYA) agad sa Cagayan at Isabela,” she said.
The BIYAYA is a private group dedicated to aiding animals, Wanas added. The group’s members visit all parts of the country, particularly those where veterinary medical care is less prevalent than human medical care.
The city veterinarian also stated that the primary focus of their work is the spaying and neutering of animals, particularly dogs and cats.
“This is one way of dog/cat population control in pursuant to our Anti-Rabies Act and to advocate pet ownership in accordance to the Animal Welfare Act,” she said.
Wanas said that additional services, such as anti-rabies vaccinations, deworming, and vitamin delivery among others, are also provided in addition to the spay/neuter procedure.
Last but not least, Wanas noted that although BIYAYA’s services are free, they do offer some merchandise, such as shirts, tote bags, and similar items, that have informational campaigns (IECs) on them about how to be a more responsible pet owner.
