TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The “Operational Plan for African Swine Flu (ASF) Free Tabuk City” will be carried out by the city government under the direction of the City Veterinary Office (CVO), in order to supply customers with safe pork.
The aforementioned operational strategy, according to City Veterinarian Carmen Wanas, will be carried out for ninety (90) days throughout the city because, without completing this procedure, the city government is unable to formally declare the city ASF free.
The City Veterinarian expressed gratitude to the city government, with particular thanks to the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO), for enabling them to use a portion of the Quick Response Fund (QRF) for their program.
Wanas described their three-month strategy, noting that the first thirty days will be devoted to cleaning and disinfecting pig sties.
“I am announcing this para mai-disseminate iti barangays nga ada tu iti mapasamak nga cleaning and disinfection kadagituy kulungan iti hog raisers, backyard man or commercial,” she said, adding that they will try to entertain as much clients as they can.
The CVO will carry out their next phase, the environmental swabbing, during the second month.
“I-swab tayu dagiti kul-kulungan dagiti nag disinfect-an tayu barangays,” she said, adding that they will investigate to see whether any signs of the fatal illness for hogs remain.
Additionally, she stated that more disinfectants will be distributed by the CVO during this phase to ensure ongoing sanitation for the piggeries.
Last but not least, the next thirty days would be spent sentineling, during which the CVO would place pigs and/or piglets in freshly cleaned pig sties so they could be further investigated by collecting blood and feces samples during the thirty (30) days period.
Wanas expressed her wish that a barangay will receive at least ten pigs so that sampling could be done for a more accurate result without endangering the individual livestock. By Edward Joseph Gacuya
