BAGUIO CITY – In response to the county’s rising cases of hacking within institutions, a partnership between Saint Louis University and National Association of Data Protection (NADPOP) and the Philippine Computer Emergency Response Team (PH-CERT) was launched on December 6 establishing a data privacy and cybersecurity global center of excellence.
This initiative has its goal of empowering the competencies of data privacy and cyber security professionals and practitioners in the regions of Cordillera, 1 and 2.
With the acceptance of SLU alongside the two of the most active Community of Practice in the country will now eye for the development of a world-class Data Privacy, Cybersecurity and Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) people equipped with training, certification, mentorship and volunteerism.
“The learning tradition, especially St. Louis University is one of the best if not the best school in the north. Not even the north, ranking worldwide. They are very proactive. They are our first partner in the Philippines. So, the organization is rallying to really support the initiatives of St. Louis University,” said by Sam Jacoba, Founding President of NADPOP.
The above-mentioned organizations take into account that it needs a nation approach to protect people and institutions against the negative elements of cyberspace, including the State-sponsored threat actors.
In a table discussion with Jacoba, he mentioned the crucial role of education as the best defense for related incidents. He also recognizes the participation of universities to spread awareness. Jacoba then added that money and fame are both roots for hacking. Hacking is not only done by an individual but there were also state sponsored likewise the cyber security war between Russia and Ukraine.
Last October, PH-CERT signed a Memorandum of Agreement with other seven ASEAN countries alongside Japan forming an ASEAN-Japan Cybersecurity Community Alliance (AJCCA). This will bring expertise from AJCCA to best defend the ecosystem of the country and the regional areas around SLU. By Adrian Mas
