A dentist of the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) advised individuals to observe proper oral health care to prevent their teeth from rapidly decaying.
BGHMC Dentist Dr. Rheymo M. Coronado said that among the practical tips to maintain good oral health are for people to brush properly and regularly; use toothpaste with fluoride; avoid eating sweets; eat healthy foods and visit the dentist at least twice a year.
On the other hand, he claimed that among the common dental problems being encountered by people are dental caries, periapical abscess, gingivitis, periodontitis, stomatitis, other ulcerative conditions, pain due to tooth eruption, fractures, avulsion, post-operative bleeding and post-operative pain.
Dental caries is an infectious micro-biological disease that results in localized dissolution and destruction of the calcified tissues of the tooth. It is also the most common chronic disease in the world.
He pointed out that microorganisms need fermented sugars for setting off the caries process and only in direct contact of fermentable sugars with the root surface cariogenic in micro-organisms can induce the caries process.
Further, dental caries is the most common disease in all age groups which is compromising the overall oral health condition of people. Coronado urged individuals to always seek appropriate medical attention from oral health experts so that whatever problems that they are experiencing will be properly addressed and for them to be provided with the needed interventions for them to be able to maintain a good mental health.
