BONTOC, Mountain Province – The winners in the Search for Healthiest Mother and Baby received their Certificates of Recognition during the regular Monday Flag Raising Ceremony on August 1, 2022, at the Bontoc Municipal Capitol grounds.
Margielyn Dapig of Barangay Alab Oriente emerged as the Healthiest Mother, Irish Mae Kisofen of Barangay Alab Proper came in 2nd place, and Almalona Ignacio of Barangay Gonogon landed in 3rd place. The winners will receive a cash prize of P2, 500; P1, 500; and P1, 000, respectively.
For the Healthiest Baby, Penelope Wangwang of Barangay Caneo was adjudged as the champion. Cheyenne Chumawar of Barangay Samoki ranked 2nd place while Ghelmar Zayne Dapig of Barangay Alab Oriente came in 3rd place. The winners will receive a cash prize of P2, 500; P1, 500; and P1, 000, respectively.
According to Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Venous Faith Cofulan, the competition was part of the observance of Nutrition Month in July and was participated in by the 16 barangays of Bontoc.
Qualified in the Search for Healthiest Mother and Baby are babies born from July 2020 to January 2022 (six months to two years old), and babies are born via normal delivery.
The contest aimed to raise community awareness and inculcate health and nutrition habits for children at an early age for healthy living. Also, it aimed to promote health consciousness among mothers regarding different factors affecting the health of children and detecting ill health and sickness at early stages.
Bontoc Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., lauded the winners adding that in the roadmap of the administration for the next three years, “ENLANGAKHA: Achieving the Vision for a Dynamic Bontoc”, one of its pillars is to Empower Communities by giving paramount importance on the promotion of health and nutrition.
The activity was conducted by the Bontoc LGU through the Municipal Health Office headed by Municipal Health Office Dr. Diga Kay Gomez.
