BAGUIO CITY – The Kafagway Sports International Luminaries Award and Recognition Program (KSILARP) is set to honor their awardees at the Silungan Center of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), Upper Session Road on February 10.
Mixed Martial Artist Stephen “The Sniper” Loman and Sportsman-Coach Marques Sangiao will lead the core of awardees from the city and other parts of the Cordillera region.
Loman will be the recipient of the prestigious NCCB Kafagway Sports “Super Athlete of the Year 2017” trophy.
Loman, a student from the University of the Cordilleras (UC), won the inaugural World Bantamweight title of the Brave Combat Federation last November over Gurdarshan Mangat of India with a first round knock-out at the Khalifa Sports City in Bahrain.
On the other hand, Sangiao, who was recently named as the No. 2 Most outstanding MMA Coach in Asia, will receive the “Super Coach of the year 2017” trophy.
Sangiao is the founder of Team Lakay, the mother sports organization of former ONE World Lightweight Champion Edward Folayang and other outstanding MMA warriors from the Cordillera. Sangiao is a veteran World and Southeast Asian Games gold medalist and is also a wushu coach at UC.
Other honorees from at least 15 sports discipline are senior citizen National Team track and field member Erlinda Lavandia, Divine Wally for Wushu, Kareel Meer Hongitan, Archery; Sandi Menchi Abahan, Ultra-marathon (W); car racer Carlos Anton and son Inigo; MMA warriors Kevin Belingon and Honorio Banario; Islay Erika Benito and Mariah Trenyce, Muay Thai; boxers Carl James Martin and KJ Natuplag; PWD Agustina Dumampog Ancheta and girls’ division chess champions Bea Mendoza and Samantha Glo Revita, among others. Names of other awardees are still undergoing the screening process. The final roll of honor of awardees will be known and announced next week.
