Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly and Jomary “The Zamboanginian Fighter” Torres took the Mall of Asia Arena by storm during the ONE: Global Superheroes last January 26 as their scintillating performances that night broke ONE records for finishing a match in abbreviated fashion.
Kelly, from the famed Team Lakay Stable, was involved in a preliminary bout but his performance was just as worthy of a main event spot. Kelly nearly stole the entire show by stopping the formerly undefeated Meas Meu in just 21 seconds, both the fastest knockout and finish in ONE featherweight history.
The 21-second demolition of the formerly undefeated Meu won Kelly the GoDaddy Knockout Of The Night award and spoiled the ONE return of the Cambodian Meu.
Meu delivered the first hit, a low kick, and connected but Kelly responded decisively.
The Ferocious fired a cross and a left hook that landed and set the killer blow, a roundhouse kick, that send Meu to the canvas on a mighty thud.
The jampacked crowed of the MOA arena roared in approval as Kelly goes to check on his Cambodian opponent, who was clearly out of it, while the fight was being called off.
On the other hand, Torres reset the record for the fastest knockout and finish across ONE’s women’s division by thumping Team Lakay’s April Osenio in just 40 seconds.
Torres, who took the fight on less than two weeks notice, demonstrated ability to handle the pressure of competing against an elite martial artist, reversing what would have been an armbar submission attempt into a thunderous slam that ends the fight in her favor.
Osenio started the bout strong, whipping fierce leg kicks at Torres, who went for a clinch and brought the fighters to the canvass.
Osenio still had Torres in a guillotine choke but her hold was loss, enabling Torres to wiggle free. Torres tried pouring in some hits but Osenio caught her left arm and went for a quick armbar submission.
Torres would not have any of them, turning the tables in an absolute stunner.
Torres clasped hands as the armbar was executed and hoisted Osenio to the air then send her back to earth with a dizzying force to score the instant knockout.
Torres sneaked in a few more fists as the referee came flying in between the fighters to save the unconscious Osenio from further punishment.
The 22-year old Torres improved undefeated record to 4-0 that includes a stunner over Rika Ishige and Nita Dea.
