The Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council, through the Inter-Agency Task Group Kennon, opened the famous zigzag road to two-way traffic on weekends of March, 2020.
The two-way traffic scheme will start at 6:00 AM every Friday and ends on 6:00 PM every Monday for March 13-16; 20-22; and 27-30, 2020 until further notice.
This was in response to the decongestion of the expected heavy traffic along Marcos Highway during the height of the Panagbenga Festival and other related activities.
The one-way scheme along Kennon Road , however, will still be implemented during the rest of the week, after 6:00 PM of Mondays to before 6:00 AM of Fridays. Only motorists going up to Baguio will be allowed passage except for vehicles of and public transport for Kennon Road area residents, who will be allowed to travel southbound (going down).
The Task Group is also reminding road users that only vehicles weighing five (5) tons and below are allowed to use Kennon Road and their drivers to observe the speed limit of thirty kilometers per hour (30 kph).
Further, vehicles going up are directed to use the right lane only during the one-way scheme. Strict observance of traffic and parking rules are required, especially when going for a stopover at the Lion’s Head.
The Task Force Group is also notifying the riding public that they can immediately close the road at the recommendation of the DPWH, and the local government and police station of Tuba during inclement weather and/or the occurrence of localized thunderstorm where landslide is imminent.
