LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The municipal government’s sister city in South Korea and the Filipino community in Hanoi, Vietnam donated some medical equipment and personal protective equipment (PPEs) to the municipality and some hospitals in Baguio City which will be used in the fight against the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).
Mayor Romeo K. Salda said that some 20 thermal scanners coming from its sister city in South Korea, Jincheon City, through a certain Mr. Li already arrived in the country but the release of the donation is still being processed with the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
He said that he was able to bring the matter to the attention of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonathan Malaya who reportedly promised to extend the needed assistance for the immediate release of the donation considering the urgency of the aforesaid medical equipment in providing adequate equipment to frontliners for them to be able to monitor the temperature of people going in and out of the municipality during the prevalence of the extended Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine and beyond.
“We are grateful to our sister city in Jincheon, South Korea and the Pinoy Sa Hanoi group in Vietnam for their donations of medical equipment and PPEs as the same will surely go a long way in the ongoing fight against COVID-19. We have to ensure that we will have a steady supply of PPEs for our frontliners because of our increasing number of persons under investigation,” Mayor Salda stressed.
On the other hand, the Pinoy sa Hanoi, an organization of Filipinos in Hanoi, Vietnam will be donating some 6 boxes containing PPEs and thermal scanners for the municipality and the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center and Notre Dame Hospital both in Baguio City.
He disclosed that the donation was initiated by Mhatet Villezon, a native of the municipality and representative of the aforesaid organization.
Salda stated that the 3 boxes of PPEs and the thermal scanners will be given to the municipality while the other boxes will be equitably distributed to the identified recipients in Baguio City as soon as the same will arrive in the country over the weekend.
The municipal mayor revealed that the local government continues to get donations from kind-hearted individuals and groups from inside and outside the municipality over the past several weeks where the same has been distributed as relief assistance to the identified vulnerable and marginalized sectors who have been heavily impacted by the implementation of the extended enhanced community quarantine.
Salda underscored that words are not enough to express the gratitude of the people and officialdom of the municipality that is why the prevailing quarantine period has brought out the best and the worst from the people and it is during these trying times that the true character of individuals are tested and proven.
At present, the 3 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the municipality were able to recover after undergoing home isolation and confinement in health facilities in the municipality that is why there are no more cases in the locality for over two weeks now considering that stringent preventive measures and contact tracing had been put in place during the discovery of the cases.
