LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The municipal government will open an additional quarantine facility in the municipality to augment its existing isolation and quarantine units to serve the increasing number of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases.
Mayor Romeo K. Salda and Vice Mayor Roderick Awingan travelled to Angeles City, Pampanga recently to have the memorandum of agreement signed by the owner of a private education institution for the use of its dormitory as a temporary quarantine facility of the municipality pending the resumption of face to face learning and the use of the same as the loading area for the students.
Salda disclosed the 21-room dormitory will be an additional temporary quarantine facility of the municipal government to accommodate the increasing number of persons from the different barangays who are contracting the deadly virus and who need to undergo the prescribed 14-day quarantine, especially when they are asymptomatic.
Aside from the Benguet General Hospital (BeGH) where critical and severe COVID-19 patients are confined for appropriate medical attention, the municipal government established a number of temporary quarantine facilities in its senior citizens building, the training center of the provincial government, and a separate training center in Bektey where most of the mild and asymptomatic cases are confined for quarantine purposes.

“Our existing temporary quarantine facilities can still accommodate the confirmed COVID-19 patients as more patients are discharged from these facilities, but we want to make sure that we have more rooms available, especially when there is a sudden surge in the number of cases as has been happening in both the national and local levels,” Mayor Salda stressed.
He claimed there were already initial talks between the municipal government and the owners of the private education institution on the use of its dormitory as the town’s temporary quarantine facility for a certain period of time.
According to him, the municipal government is aggressive searching for suitable structures that could be used as additional temporary isolation and quarantine facilities to respond to the current unpredictable situation of sudden surges in the number of COVID-19 patients primarily because targeted testing has expanded and contact tracing is being undertaken.
The municipal mayor stated that personnel of the municipal government started janitorial activities in the site while awaiting the agreement to be signed so that the same could already serve its purpose once the existing temporary quarantine facilities are fully booked with patients.
Salda and Awingan expressed the municipal government’s gratitude to the school owner for allowing the dormitory to be used by the municipality as its temporary quarantine facility.
