City officials recently urged the City Engineering office in close coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways – Baguio City District Engineering Office (DPWH-BCDEO) to conduct a land survey for the Malcolm Square or Peoples Park and establish its boundaries with existing national and local roads surround the said public place.
Under Resolution No. 103, series of 2024, local legislators also required the CEO and DPWH-BCDEO to submit to the local legislative body the technical description of the said park which will be used as a reference for whatever future actions that will be undertaken in the said area.
The council claimed that Malcolm Square or Peoples Park has been a venue of numerous important events such as cultural and theatrical performances, and political, economic, and religious activities as it is located right at the center of the city and open to the public.
Earlier, the body considered various matters, issues and suggestions raised by the members during the February 19, 2024 regular session relative to the Proposed Ordinance No. PO 0090-22 introduced by Councilor Isabelo B. Cosalan, Jr. that seeks to regulate and govern the operation and maintenance of Malcolm Square.
Malcolm Square has been rehabilitated, upgraded and improved through the years to allow the place to accommodate more individuals during the conduct of various government and private sector-led activities to prevent them from impeding the smooth flow of traffic along national and local roads around it.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the concerned offices and agencies for their information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
