LA TRINIDAD, Benguet– The municipal government warned alleged erring developers who reportedly resumed construction activities while there is community quarantine without the required permits and clearances from the concerned offices for them to push through with their regulated operations.
Boardmember Nestor B. Fongwan, Jr. said that reports have reached concerned offices of the municipal government that there are erring developers that have reportedly resumed their construction operations during the community quarantine even without the appropriate permits from the municipality that runs counter to the efforts of the government to regulate said operations to abate the spread of the deadly virus.
He pointed out that instead of cooperating with the strict implementation of the community quarantine guidelines, erring developers opted to pursue their illegal construction activities and took advantage of the fact that concerned government agencies and the municipal government are focused in combatting the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the locality.

The president of the Philippine Councilors League-Benguet chapter stated that in fairness to the concerned offices of the municipal government, reports on the presence of illegal construction activities had been immediately addressed where unpermitted construction activities had been ordered to stop and for the developers to secure the required permits and clearances from the municipality.
Fongwan urged residents in the town’s 16 barangays to be vigilant on the ongoing construction activities in their places and for them to immediately report to the municipal government illegal constructions that are underway so that appropriate actions could be done to stop the same and impose the necessary penalties against those responsible in the conduct of such illegal activities in the virus parts of the municipality.
According to him, developers and individuals interested to put up structures in the municipality should first secure the appropriate permits and licenses from the concerned offices and pay the corresponding regulatory fees prior to the start of their construction activities to ensure that the same will be properly monitored to comply with the prescribed safety standards in the construction industry.
Fongwan asserted that the prevalence of the community quarantine to fight the possible spread of the deadly virus is a time of cooperation of everyone in adhering to the established health and safety protocols and not for some people to take advantage of the situation to advance their own personal interests.
He stated that individuals involved in construction activities should not undermine the municipal government by pursuing their illegal activities during the community quarantine because municipal officials will not hesitate to impose the appropriate fines and penalties against them for their violations that is why they better cooperate with the prevailing policies or face the consequences of their illegal activities as no one will be able to escape the long arms of the law.
