City officials recently allowed the conduct of Session road market encounter on the first Sunday of October 2023 as an opening activity in celebration of the Cooperative Month in the city.
Under Resolution No. 548, series of 2023, local legislators stated that with the achievements of the cooperatives last year and to continue the support and sustainability of the cooperatives in the city, the cooperative sector, earlier requested the local government to showcase their products and services on the first Sunday of October 2023 along the stretch of Session Road as part of the opening activities lined up by the concerned government agencies in celebration of Cooperative Month in the city.
Republic Act (RA) 11502 declared the month of October as the National Cooperative Month and allowed concerned government agencies in close coordination with local governments to line up various activities related to the upliftment of the cooperatives in the different parts of the country.
Earlier, the city council through Ordinance No. 46, series of 2017 institutionalized the conduct of a Cooperative Month celebration every October in the city and allowed the conduct of various activities related to the promotion and upliftment of cooperatives that are operating in the different parts of the city.
Further, the council adopted Resolution No. 361, series of 2022 that allowed the conduct of Session road market encounter on the first Sunday of October 2022 as an opening activity in celebration of last year’s Cooperative Month in the city to provide an opportunity for cooperatives to showcase their products and services.
The council tasked the concerned offices of the local government and partner cooperatives to consider seeking the possibility of having the second, third and fourth Sundays of October 2023 to be utilized for showcasing the cooperatives’ products and services along the city’s main road.
The council stipulated that the participating cooperatives shall comply with the special permit and other requirements by the local government and assisted by the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) in the Cordillera, the Baguio City Cooperative Development Council (BCCDC), the city cooperative desk and partner cooperatives.
