BONTOC, Mountain Province – In an effort to enhance police-community relations and bridge the gap between law enforcement and civilians, the 28th Police Community Relations Culminating Activity was held on August 4, 2023, featuring Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., as the guest of honor and speaker.
The event, organized by the Mountain Province Police Provincial Office (MPPPO), aimed to foster understanding, transparency, and mutual respect between the police force and the community.
Mayor Tudlong began his speech by acknowledging the crucial role law enforcement plays in maintaining peace and security not only in this capital town but the province as a whole. He emphasized the significance of strong police-community relations as a foundation for a safe and harmonious society.
“As you culminate this month-long celebration, I extend my congratulations to all of you for upholding the rule of law. Peacekeeping is not the sole responsibility of the police and law enforcement agencies but is everybody’s business. Fighting crimes is everyone’s business. We all have a civic duty to act as the eyes and ears of the community and the police force. The fight against evil is not just a police fight, it is also my fight, and the entire people’s fight. But to win the love, trust, and support of the community, police officers must be seen, felt and experienced by the people at all times. And I am happy to know that our kapulisan reaches even the far-flung areas in the province to deliver basic services,” he added.
Further, the mayor acknowledged the challenges that law enforcement personnel face daily but emphasized that their role extends far beyond being just a job.
“Police work is not just a job. The choices you make will impact people and families for days, years, or a lifetime,” he said.
Meanwhile, MPPPO Provincial Director PCOL Sibly Dawiguey, Jr., expressed his gratitude to all the participants for their dedication in strengthening the bond between law enforcement and the community, highlighting that their presence is a manifestation of their support and commitment in creating a safer community.
The event was attended by faith-based volunteers, Kabataan Kontra Droga At Terorismo (KKDAT) members, Philippine Information Agency-Mountain Province, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, Red Cross, and other stakeholders.
