BAGUIO CITY – The local government still needs additional funds to complete the multipurpose building within the premises of the Baguio Athletic Bowl between the main grandstand and the Baguio City National High School (BCNHS) fronting the swimming pool to accommodate indoor games and to serve as additional quarters of athletes among others, Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan said here recently.
The local chief executive claimed the P60 million earlier earmarked by the local government for the project is not sufficient to complete the needed structure beneficial to the athletes wanting to avail of the use of the sports facilities of the city.
“We are still sourcing out additional funds to complete the project because we want more indoor games to be confined within the premises of the Athletic Bowl during local, regional, national and international sports competitions hosted by the city,” Domogan stressed.
He said the plans for the initial phase of the project is being completed by the City Buildings and Architecture Office (CBAO) which will, in turn, be publicly bidded out while the additional funds are being sourced out to ensure the continuous implementation of the project in the coming months.
The P60 million programmed by the local government for the multipurpose building is its counterpart for the rehabilitation of the city’s sports facility through the Department of Public Works and Highways–Baguio City District Engineering Office (DPWH-BCDEO) in preparation for the potential hosting of the 2018 Palarong Pambansa if the city will be able to qualify for the bidding.
Domogan underscored the importance of maximizing the available space within the Baguio Athletic Bowl to accommodate more sports facilities for the benefit of athletes and sports enthusiasts.
Among the indoor games that can be housed in the city’s multipurpose building include boxing, table tennis, combative sports, badminton, volleyball, basketball, gymnastics aside from facilities for athlete’s quarters and shower rooms.
He claimed the completion of the multipurpose building will definitely add to the capacity of the Athletic Bowl to host major sports events by both the government and the private sector.
