LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The municipal government is currently constructing a 4-storey rural health facility to serve as the town’s multipurpose rural health unit to cater to the health concerns of the residents.
Mayor Romeo K. Salda said the ongoing construction of the town’s rural health center in Barangay Puguis is a joint effort of the Cordillera office of the Department of (DOH-CAR) which provided the initial P4 million to jumpstart the project and the municipal government which shouldered the remaining balance for the realization of the noble project.
He added the rural health unit will also serve as a birthing clinic pursuant to standards of the health department as the agency will be providing the required equipment for the facility once the same will be completed and ready for operation by next year.
Aside from the ongoing construction of the town’s rural health unit, the municipal government is also investing in the improvement of existing health centers in the different barangays of the municipality for residents seeking the necessary medical attention from the said facilities to have a fully-equipped center to cater to their health service needs.
Salda claimed the rural health undergoing construction will exclusively serve its prescribed purpose pursuant to the guidelines of the health department, thus, its operation will be solely dedicated to help the municipal government improve the delivery of basic health services.
“We need to continue investing in the continuous improvement of our health facilities and services and bring the same closer to our people to address our constituents’ health needs at our level before being referred to other medical facilities in case their health condition is complicated,” Mayor Salda stressed.
The municipal chief executive underscored health is one of the most important services that must be provided to the people because healthy people are productive in their own vocations that help maintain the economic activities in the municipality.
According to him, the ongoing construction of the Puguis Rural Health Unit will help in providing residents of the municipality quality health services as the municipal government will also infuse additional funds to improve other existing district health centers to serve people seeking health-related attention from the said government facilities.
He expressed his gratitude to the DOH-CAR officials for providing the initial funds for the put up and improvement of the town’s rural health unit aside from ensuring the provision of the necessary units of equipment in the said facility once it is operational.
The improvement of rural health units around the country is part of the program of the health department to enhance health facilities in the rural and urban areas to help provide quality health services to people and lessen the congestions in government and private medical institutions.
