City officials recently strongly supported the passage into law of House Bill (HB) 8081 which seeks to modify the salary schedule for civilian government personnel and authorizing the grant of additional benefits and for other purposes.
In a resolution, local legislators stated that the passage into law of HB 8081 would be of great advantage to the public sector workers.
HB 8081 seeks to improve the purchasing power of approximately 2.46 million civil servants in the country that was eroded by inflation by providing an increase in the salary of government officials and employees.
Further, it also aims to attract and retain competent and committed civil servants and increase productivity among the public sector workers.
The bill which was authored by former Batangas Rep. and now Finance Secretary Ralph Recto is now pending with the House committee on appropriations since May 2023.
Based on the proposed law, the salary increase is equivalent to an across the board annual 10 percent increase for four years. With the bill, the government would contribute in alleviating the living conditions of the 2.46 million public servants.
The council claimed that the much needed relief that the proposed measure offers will further motivate government personnel and invigorate public service that will be beneficial to the greater majority of the populace.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the Office of the Finance Secretary, House of Representatives, Senate of the Philippines for their information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
