TABUK CITY, Kalinga – During his press conference on April 8, 2024, City Mayor Darwin Estrañero stated that while the Bulanao Public Market is now under development, plans are also being made for the future development of the Dagupan Public Market.
A month earlier, Estrañero claims to have conducted an ocular inspection with the city’s public market developer.
Nonetheless, the mayor of the city stated that they are attempting to find a way to reclaim the now occupied property of the City Local Government Unit of Tabuk (CLGU) within the Dagupan market vicinity
“We are burdened on how to [take] back the property of the city government being occupied by residents of [Barangay] Casigayan,” he said, further explaining that part of the lot of the public market have houses constructed inside it.
According to Estrañero, the city will offer the same proposal proposed to the affected vendors and stall owners impacted by the creation of the Bulanao Public Market, with the option to either receive their relocation or have a stall in the proposed public market.
What to Expect from the New Dagupan Public Market
In addition to having a newer, cleaner, and more contemporary public market, the Local Chief Executive (LCE) stated that the CLGU might turn a profit by taxing the future building’s spaces and stalls after the project is completed.
“𝑀𝑎𝑦𝑟𝑜𝑜𝑛 𝑡𝑎𝑦𝑜𝑛𝑔 proposal 𝑑𝑦𝑎𝑛 to do what we’re trying to do in Bulanao, [to] put up markets on the first three floors and fourth to the tenth floors will be residential ones so that we can utilize the airspace,” he said.
The LCE also stated that future developers are now in the planning stages and will meet with various offices responsible for the market’s enhancement once it is finalized. By Edward Joseph Gacuya
