BAGUIO CITY – The RDC-CAR endorsed the Theme and Calendar of Activities for the 37th Commemoration of the Cordillera Month during the First Quarter RDC meeting on March 15, 2024 at the Venus Parkview Hotel, Baguio City. The event is to commemorate the historic occasion of the creation of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
The proposed theme for the 37th-year celebration is “Multiculturalism towards Regional Autonomy and Development,” aiming to advocate good governance and regional autonomy amidst cultural diversity. The event will be led by the Sectoral Committee on Development Administration and Good Governance (DevAd), with the Province of Abra serving as the LGU host.
RDC Development Administration Sectoral Committee Chairperson, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong outlined the activities scheduled for the Cordillera Month Celebration, highlighting the Cordillera Month Kapihan, which will serve as a platform for media interviews to officially disseminate information about the month-long activities. The activities will commence with an opening or Kick-off activity on the first day of July, followed by the Unity Gong Relay, symbolizing unity and cultural diversity in the Cordillera Region. Additionally, the Cordillera Day Program and the Cordillera Fun Bike: Cycling Towards Unity and Heritage are also scheduled, the latter organized by local authorities to promote physical and mental health, environmental consciousness, and appreciation for Cordilleran traditions. Furthermore, a Webinar Series and training on Good Governance in Autonomy are scheduled preceding the closing event that features a Multicultural Activity, which officially concludes the 37th Cordillera Month Celebration.
The multi-stakeholder support for these activities signifies a steadfast commitment towards a deeper understanding of culture and unity in the Cordillera for regional autonomy. By PDIPBD
