BAGUIO CITY – In observance of the World Donor Day, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) – Baguio City Chapter conducted a mass blood donation at the Malcolm Square on June 14.
Despite the rain, a total of 46 bags at 450cc or an equivalent of 20 liters of blood were collected from donors.
Annie Tamayo, chapter administrator, expressed her gratitude to all blood donors and supporters to the event.
“We need constant supply of blood for the big number of clients we are serving. We are focusing on mothers who are giving birth and dengue patients so again we are asking the help of volunteers to come and donate blood,” she said.
Simultaneous mass blood donations are in full swing throughout the country pursuant to PRC’s objective to encourage every qualified Filipino blood donor to give their blood, and pursuant to the goal of the Department of Health, Philippine Blood Coordinating Council and PRC to meet 100% the national requirements for blood in the next five years.
To date, PRC remains to be the biggest supplier of safe and quality blood in the country.
To ensure that everyone gets blood covering the processing cost for safe and quality blood, PRC is exerting all efforts to promote and get more supporters of ‘Blood Samaritan’ project. Blood Samaritan is a project where members sponsor indigent patients in need of blood but cannot afford the processing fee.
“We need big-hearted people to support Blood Samaritan project,” she said.
PRC, which is a voluntary and non-profit humanitarian organization, is dependent solely on public donations for funds. (PIA CAR)
