SANTA MARCELA, Apayao – Beatriz Z. Tagaca of San Mariano, Santa Marcela won 3rd Place in the 2023 Regional Search for Outstanding Barangay Health Workers and was awarded at the Orchard Hotel, in Baguio City on November 15.
The Department of Health (DOH) conferred the award to Tagaca and the others to recognize the invaluable services of barangay health workers (BHWs) in their communities in providing primary health care, which includes, but not limited to, assisting physicians, dentists, nutritionists, public health nurses, and midwives catering to the welfare of all members of the barangay.
As a health volunteer Tagaca said, she has been serving as a BHW for several years and has performed various roles to her constituents such as maintaining records and making reports, collecting vital statistics, assisting health center activities, participating in community meetings, assisting in nutrition education, monitoring and feeding, equipment sterilization, first aid, assisting in family planning services, sanitation and hygiene promotion, and assisting immunization education, monitoring and dispensing.
Tagaca disclosed during an interview that she decided to represent the province since it has been in her blood to serve and provide health care to anyone in need.
By representing the province, she is an example to reflect the unwavering efforts of BHWs across the province to make sure those in need of health care are served.
“Sumali po ako sa individual category bilang representative ng Apayao, at bilang federation president po ng Santa Marcela para maging boses ng mga BHWs at makita ng karamihan an gaming mga trabaho at sakripisyo para sa aming mga komunidad,” Tagaca expressed.
Along with the certificate of recognition Tagaca received P15,000 cash incentive, 1 unit of laptop, a trophy and a bag. By J. Dela Torre
