MUNTINLUPA CITY – The Ampayag Cultural Performers of Pudtol stole the spotlight on the third day of IMPAKABSAT 2023, showcasing the mesmerizing Lapat and Say-am dances in Festival Mall, Alabang, Muntinlupa, last November 19, 2023.
IMPAKABSAT is the regular regional trade fair of the Department of Trade and Industry–Cordillera (DTI–CAR), where products made by local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are being showcased and is usually held at the Alabang Festival Mall. IMPAKABSAT is an acronym of the provinces and city of Cordillera – Ifugao, Mountain Province, Abra, Kalinga, Apayao, Benguet and Baguio City plus the Ilocano word “Kabsat” which means brother to signify unity.
Said event was made even more special with the presence of the supportive mayor of Pudtol town, Hon. Hector Reuel Pascua, who graced the said occasion.
The Lapat, a significant conservation practice deeply rooted in the province, drew attention for its unique approach to environmental stewardship. The dance symbolizes the temporary restriction of access to forests, rivers, or lands for a specified period. This traditional method aims to promote rest and recovery, and at the same time, preserving Apayao’s natural resources.
Likewise, the Say-am dance featured movements and colorful costumes, reflecting the unique cultural identity of the Isnag people. It not only commemorates the founding of the province but also pays homage to the indigenous Isnag tradition of blessing and thanksgiving.
“We are grateful to the local government unit of Apayao, led by Hon. Elias Bulut, Jr. and Pudtol Mayor Hector Reuel D. Pascua, for bringing the Say-am Festival to the IMPAKABSAT Regional Trade Fair. Their dedication to preserving and promoting our cultural heritage is truly commendable,” wrote IMPAKABSAT 2023 in their Facebook page.
Visitors are encouraged to explore the Say-am Festival exhibit at the Upper Ground Floor of the Festival Supermall, where the showcase will continue until November 26, 2023. This is a rare opportunity to witness the beauty and diversity of Apayao’s indigenous culture right in the heart of Alabang. By JCM
