BAGUIO CITY – City officials recently urged the City Engineering Office–Traffic and Transportation Management Division (CEO-TTMD), the Baguio City Police Office–Traffic Enforcement Unit (BCPO-TEU), the Cordillera office of the land Transportation Office (LTO-CAR), the Department of Public works and Highways – Baguio City District Engineering Office (DPWH-BCDEO), the Cordillera office of the Department of Transportation (DOTR-CAR) and other concerned government agencies and offices of the local government to come up with a scheme that would resolve traffic congestions during September to December, summer vacation, the Panagbenga Flower Festival, and other similar gatherings conducted in the city annually.
Under Resolution No. 739, series of 2023, local legislators stated that the city government actually needs the help and expertise of the various concerned government agencies and offices, both national and local, which shall convene and devise more efficient traffic schemes to consider for visitors and tourists to park their cars and take the available public transportation more efficient and the construction of proposed multi-level parking to ease traffic congestion that must be fastracked and the strict implementation of traffic rules and regulations.
During the Scout Officials for A Day (SOFAD) session held on October 23, 2023, the SOFAD Council adopted the proposal of SOFAD Councilor Zoei Zyrille L. Vesagas that urged the concerned government agencies in the city to come up with a scheme that would resolve traffic, especially during the ‘ber’ months, summer vacation and the annual conduct of the Panagbenga Flower Festival.
Further, the city, being the undisputed Summer Capital of the Philippines, and its nearby localities are now experiencing heavy traffic from September to December, during summer vacation and the annual conduct of the Panagbenga Flower Festival due to the influx of cars and the visitors during these seasons.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the concerned offices as earlier stated for their information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
