SANTA MARCELA, Apayao – Another retail business opportunity was opened and inaugurated in Santa Marcela town on February 15, 2024, aiming to generate good income and provide prompt employment for the members of SLP Panay Association.
The official opening and turnover program was witnessed by Congresswoman Eleanor Bulut-Begtang, SWAD-Apayao team leader Gretchen Garcia, livelihood focal person Jaylord Javier, PSWDO personnel, some municipal government office heads and officials, Sangguniang Bayan members led by Vice Mayor Rolly Guiang, and barangay officials.
This business establishment was an outcome of the request initiated by Bulut-Begtang to DSWD secretary Rex Gatchalian. Through the request, Apayao was given PhP15M last year as an intervention for the adversely affected residents of Typhoon Egay in the Province.
One of the beneficiaries of the 15 million pesos was the SLP Panay Association. Others given SLP assistance earlier were communities in Pudtol, Flora, and Conner.
The Office of the Congresswoman on Monday disclosed that the substantial amount allocated for assistance was disbursed through the Sustainable Livelihood Program of the DSWD.
