BAGUIO CITY – The city government has lined up a good number of sports events as part of the highlights of the month-long celebration of the 110th Charter Day anniversary of the country’s undisputed Summer Capital.
The sports event will fire off on August 30th until the 31st with the staging of the Baguio Day Batted Cup 2019 where selected teams will compete in batted games such as baseball and softball that will be played at the Baguio Athletic Bowl and the Melvin Jones football field while the Baguio Day darts tournament will also be played in a venue to be announced later.
On August 31 – September 1, 2019, golf enthusiasts will be actively participating in the traditional Baguio Olympics Golf for a Cause at the Baguio Country Club golf course while running enthusiasts can join the Baguio Olympics 10-miler from the Lion’s Head along Kennon road ending up at the Baguio Athletic Bowl or the Burnham Lake Drive.
Aside from the Baguio Kailian Run and the Golf for a Cause on September 1st, biking enthusiasts can join the Biking Classic Uphill Race from the scenic and historic Kennon road up to Country Club village.
The batted games will continue with the tournament proper via the elimination games to be simultaneously played at the Baguio Athletic Bowl and Melvin Jones football field on September 7-8, 2019 followed by the Coplay Run 2019 at the Baguio Athletic Bowl on September 8th.
On September 14, 15 and 21, 2019, the quarterfinal games of the batted ball tournament will continue in both the Baguio Athletic Bowl and Melvin Jones while the Baguio Day Invitational National Arnis Encounter will be conducted at the Baguio City National High School on September 22, 2019.
Karate enthusiasts will be competing against each other in the 5th Baguio Day Karate Do Invitational Championship 2019 at the Baguio City National High School (BCNHS) auditorium on September 29, 2019.
City Tourism Officer Engr. Aloysius C. Mapalo said the different sports events for this year’s Baguio Charter Day anniversary were decided in close coordination with the different sports associations in the city in a bid to help in aggressively promoting sports as one of the recreational activities offered by the city to visitors.
He added the city government and the concerned sports organizations prepared the program for the different sports events to inspire the active participation of the people to sports-related activities to help make Baguio city one of the favorite venues for future sports events with its conducive environment for sports.
The city tourism officer encouraged more participation from sports enthusiasts and the public to join in the different sports events during this month-long celebration of the Charter anniversary of Baguio City to showcase their talents in their chosen sports.
