On my personal life, I dreamed to do a lot of things. I wanted to write books. I wanted to write songs. Of course, I would be lying if I say I never dreamt of getting rich. There are several other things I want to accomplish during those times when I spend time wishful thinking. One of these days I should be able to do any of these things, I keep reminding myself. Several years later, I still wish I could have done just one of my aspirations. But then I still feel I have more years to go. So, there is still hope.
If you are like me, we have frustrations and disappointments in life. There are things we really cannot achieve even in our lifetime. While others have been lucky in business, we just can’t get our own ventures started. While others easily travel around the world, we are stuck in our own backyard without any chance of travelling further than the island we were born into.
But life has to move on. We have to live our lives to the fullest they say. We cannot be burdened by the things we failed or unable to do. We have to do something in the meantime. We cannot just give up on our dreams. We have to take small steps closer to their realization. As long as we are alive, we still have hope. A lot of popular people were rejected in their respective fields when they were just starting in their careers.
The Beatles got rejected by music producers. So is Col. Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken. Several restaurants never believed his recipe will become so popular to chicken eaters. JK Rowling of the Harry Potter fame, got her share of several rejections too by publishers. There are countless others around the world who failed but never gave up.
We shall reach a point of acceptance too. Perhaps despite doing our best, it is impossible to make it happen. We cannot insist on being a singer If we don’t have the voice. Michael Jordan tried baseball once but basketball is where his talent is at. He was mediocre in baseball but he is a hero in basketball. Everybody wanted to be like Mike.
Sometimes, we have to assess ourselves and learn of our weaknesses. We cannot all be like Mike, a great basketball player or a phenomenal 3-point shooter like Steph Curry. You cannot be like me and I cannot be like you. We have our unique strengths and talents. That is what we have to discover. It’s more likely that we excel in some talent but we have not found it out yet. We can seek guidance from our friends, mentors and people who know our worth.
I hope and pray that we will all be successful on finding our strengths and where we are good at. If we have done this, we are halfway to our dreams. At least, that is what experts and motivational speakers say.
