TABUK CITY, Kalinga – In a win for the city’s creative industry, Tabuk’s proposed ‘MANG-WA’ Creative Festival has successfully secured an initial funding of P250,000 from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
Acting Mayor Dick Bal-o received the grant during the Ceremonial Awarding for Lunsod Lunsad Creative Cities on Oct. 16, at the Philippine Trade Training Center in Pasay City.
The initial amount is meant to kick-off the implementation of the creative festival, starting with two activities slated in December: Festival Management & Choreography Seminar & Workshop, which aims to capacitate the barangays in planning and executing their festivals; and ‘Liklikwos’, a creative tour around the city’s agri-tourism, cultural, and heritage attractions.
The ‘MANG-WA’ Creative Festival is among the 40 project proposals that received funding from the DTI under its “Lunsod Lunsad: A Call for Creative Proposals towards Building Creative Cities” project.
The project proposal was crafted by a technical working group composed of various offices of the city government and local creatives in partnership with DTI-Kalinga. It outlines a host of activities aimed to promote Tabuk’s creative industries including audiovisual media, performing arts, visual arts, design, traditional cultural expressions, and cultural sites.
