BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC)-Societas Scientia and MPSPC Science faculty spearhead a three-day clean up drive around the capital town of Bontoc.
The drive was entitled, “Mahal ko Chico River 2024: Upholding Lang-ay Solidarity.,” another offshoot of this year’s 57th Lang-ay Festival theme that also underscored solidarity.
“Thank you, MPSPC, for further giving meaning to our Lang-ay Festival. That is not just about the continuance of our rich traditions but also addresses the proliferation of our forebears’ deep appreciation and love for our land which is manifested in environmental protection and preservation,” Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. said upon learning about the initiative.
Various student organizations of MPSPC, i.e., STS Students, General Chemistry Criminology students, People and Earth Ecosystem Students; the Mountain Province General Comprehensive High School YES-O Club; the Sangguniang Kabataan Chapters of Samoki, Poblacion, and Caluttit, Bontoc; and by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources joined in the undertaking. The activity was also done in coordination with the Office of the Bontoc Municipal Mayor Jerome B. Tudlong, Jr. for the hauling of the collected wastes.
The drive commenced last April 20, 2024 in Barangays Poblacion and Bontoc Ili with a total of 75 bags of assorted garbage collected.
The second leg of the drive was conducted in Samoki last April 27, 2024. 65 bags of assorted garbage were collected during the day.
The last day of the drive took place in Barangay Caluttit on Labor Day, May 1, 2024, where a total of 159 bags of assorted garbage were collected.
Subsequently, the truckload of garbage was hauled by the Bontoc Municipal Garbage Truck to the Am-ancho Solid Waste Facility.
With this, on behalf of the Provincial Government, Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. expresses his deep appreciation to organizers and all the participants for their initiative and effort in conducting the activity. In addition, the Provincial Government through its Mountain Province Environment and Natural Resources Office (MPENRO), commends the leadership displayed by all faculty, advisers, and student organizations who participated in the drive.
“Congratulations, MPSPC, for spearheading the very successful cleanup drive. Keep it up as this is also teaching our children to be responsible citizens, particularly in solid waste management. However, we also urge everyone to be more mindful of our garbage so our schools could focus more on enhancing their potential than in having to pick up after our wastes. We sincerely appreciate the initiative of the MPSPC and all other participants for the very fruitful endeavor. We hope that this kind of collaboration will prosper,” Atty. Raul I.
