Last August 30, 2023, the country celebrated National Press Freedom Day with simple but meaningful activities that had been lined up by the concerned sectors for the said celebration.
Republic Act (RA) 11669 declared every August 30 as National Press Freedom Day in honor of Marcelo H. del Pilar who has been declared as the Father of Philippine journalism.
Carlson greeted the Philippine media for sustaining the gains of press freedom in the country and for upholding democracy in the country.
According to her, press freedom allows people to be able to actively participate in calling out injustices that are happening within their midst that is why the presence of free press in a democratic nation like the Philippines is important to be able to ensure that actions of the government and the private sector are based on standards for the protection of life and limb.
