LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Office of Benguet caretaker congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap formally turned over to the 13 municipal mayors of the province the initial wave of relief assistance for the vulnerable and marginalized sectors who had been heavily impacted by the ongoing implementation of the Luzonwide enhanced community quarantine.
Kevin Edward See, Chief of Staff of Congressman Yap, brought to the province some 500 cavans of Thailand rice that was purchased by the lawmaker from his personal money purposely for relief assistance that will be distributed by the local governments to the heavily affected sectors of their communities to help them cope up with the effects of the extended quarantine period.
He explained that the delivered rice supply is just an initial wave of assistance coming from the kind-hearted lawmaker as he is trying his best to source out available supply that could be brought to the province to sustain the provision of relief assistance to the vulnerable and marginalized sectors considering that he is aware of the prevailing situation that they are currently experiencing, especially that a good number of hem lost their economic activities, employment and sources of livelihood.
The lawmaker’s aide claimed that being the designated caretaker of the province and a party-list representative, Congressman Yap is also working hard to attend to the numerous requests for assistance from other areas in the country but bulk of the aid coming from him is being given to Benguet which he considers as the district that he represents after being given the duty to do so.
The 13 municipalities of the province were able to get some 38 cavans of Thailand rice that were immediately brought to the recipient local governments for distribution to the identified beneficiaries.
Congressman was not able o visit the province recently after his controversial Corona virus Disease (COVID) 2019 test result as he was advised by health authorities to still complete his 14-day quarantine period and await the outcome of another test before being given the needed clean bill of health.
In a video conference with members of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Benguet chapter, Yp rallied the local chief executives to continue working hard in attending to the needs of their constituents during these trying times as he will also do his best in sourcing out whatever available assistance to be able to ease the effect of the on quarantine to the vulnerable and marginalized sectors of their localities.
He urged them to continue stepping up their efforts in reaching out to their constituents to ascertain their needs at this time and for them to exert extra effort in looking for ways and means on how to effectively and efficiently address the concerns of their constituents with the assistance from his office and the provincial government because what is important is the whole of nation approach to be able to deal with the prevailing quarantine period which is a measure to prevent the spread of the deadly virus that is now considered as a global pandemic.
