MANKAYAN, Benguet – Benguet caretaker congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party list Rep. Eric Yap announced that the Youth Assistance Program (YAP) will be back for the coming schoolyears to help poor but deserving youth to acquire a higher level of education and eventually become productive citizens that will help in uplifting the living condition of their families and contribute in the efforts to bring growth and development to the countryside.
Yap, who chairs the powerful House committee on appropriations, stated that an initial amount of P25 million had been earmarked to continue the implementation of the program to allow deserving senior students to pursue a higher level of education that will allow them to use the same to contribute in achieving growth and development not only in the province but also in the region.
He claimed that under the updated guidelines for the implementation of the YAP, qualified senior students from the province’s 13 municipalities will be granted financial assistance for them to be able to sustain going to school and that the same will be provided until they graduate from their chosen courses in the various higher education institutions, both private and public.
The lawmaker explained that concerned agencies are finding ways on how to issue to the identified beneficiaries the necessary cards that indicate the assistance that they will receive from the government and that years that they will get such aid so that they will just simply show to the agency upon receiving their benefits to avoid the long lines that may be created in the said offices.
According to him, the issuance of such cards to the beneficiaries of the YAP will be granted the prescribed financial assistance until they will complete their chosen courses in private or public higher education institutions to avoid unnecessary delays in the timely release of their benefits.
Congressman Yap appealed to the beneficiaries of the program to maximize the use of their financial assistance to be able to pursue their studies because he understands the difficulties that they are currently encountering just for them to be able to pursue a higher level of education.
Last year, Yap worked out the provision of some P25 million to initially bankroll the implementation of the program where thousands of deserving students were able to get their financial assistance from the allocated funds.
He underscored the importance of the youth acquiring a higher level of education is important in charting a brighter future for them because they can use the same to become productive individuals that they will be able to use to improve the living condition of their families
Further, yap stipulated that education is still the best inheritance that parents and guardians could give to their children because it cannot be easily taken away from them unlike any other material things where they will use the same to their advantage in charting their future. That will be primarily beneficial to their families.
