TABUK CITY, Kalinga – A total of 40 Pag-asa Youth Association (PYA) members from Barangay Lanna attended the one-day orientation on the Unlad Kabataan Program (UKP) and the election of PYA officers given by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
During the event, Sally Daluping, a youth worker, focused her presentation on incorporating the youth sector in planning and decision-making processes that could influence community transformation.
Daluping, who is still an active youth leader, believes that their voice should not be discounted because they are the country’s future leaders.
Another member of the team, Social Welfare Officer I Gideon P. Wansi, stressed that the UKP serves as a guide for all youth organizations in carrying out their responsibilities efficiently.
He explained that by attending the orientation, youth participants will no longer be limited to the same activities such as sports fests and study tours, but will also have access to more empowering and sustainable activities such as team building, strategic planning, leadership and self-improvement, crime and violence prevention, among others.
One of the attendees, said the orientation gave him a better understanding of what the UKP is all about and how the program operates in terms of youth empowerment.
To disseminate clearer information on the role of the youth sector in nation-building, the CSWDO plans to host an orientation on the UKP in all barangays.
