BAGUIO CITY – A young man died while his older brother was injured after their motorcycle collided with a truck along Naguilian Road, particularly at Purok 7, Irisan here around 12:15 pm Friday.
Senior Superintendent Rolando F. Miranda, officer-in-charge of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), identified the fatality as Fernando Gali Saldo, while his injured older brother was named as Stephen Gali Saldo, 25, both natives of Bagulin, La Union.
Initial police investigation showed the Saldo brothers were on board a motorcycle and were ascending along the Naguilian Road when they accidentally collided with a truck driven by Arvin Rufino Sawangin, 40, a resident of Irisan, Baguio City.
The occupants of the motorcycle fell on the ground but the front wheel of the truck rammed over the head of Fernando.
Both victims were rushed to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) for medical treatment but Fernando was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians due to multiple head fracture while Stephen is undergoing close medical supervision.
The truck driver was arrested by responding police operatives and now stands to face charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and serious physical injuries and damage to properties before the city prosecutor’s office.
