BANGUED, Abra – A 41-year old farmer died while two others were injured during a shooting rampage at Calumbitin, San Antonio, here, Sunday.
Police authorities identified the fatality as Bonifacio Valdez Bañez, 41, while the injured individuals were named as Jason Dacayan, 21 years old, single, student and Roel Algarne, 31 years old, married, farmer, all residents of Calumbitin, San Antonio, Bangued, Abra.
Initial police investigation showed the fatality, together with his daughter and son, when they met Algarne and Dacayanan and without apparent reasons, Dacayanan then hit Bañez on the head using a peace of woos.
However, the victim was able to draw his calibre .45 pistol and immediately fired at the two individuals on the different parts of his body.
Santiago Dacayanan, Jason’s father, who heard the gunshots went to see what was going on outside and saw his son sprawled bloodied on the ground that prompted him to get his gauge 12 shotgun and chased the victim then shot him several times hitting him on the different parts of his body.
The three individuals were rushed to the Abra Provincial Hospital for medical treatment but Banuez was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians while the two wounded individuals were confined in the same hospital.
The older Dacayanan was arrested by responding police operatives and is now detained at the Bangued Municipal Police Station awaiting the filing of appropriate charges against them.
Responding police operatives recovered from the crime scene multiple spent shells of still undetermined types of firearm used in the incident.
