ITOGON, Benguet – A road roller driver died while his two helpers were injured after the unit of heavy equipment collided head on with a water delivery truck along The Baguio-Itogon Road, particularly At Tuding, here, Saturday morning.
Police authorities identified the fatality as Sape A. Mario, of legal age, driver of the steam roller (pison) and a resident of Cabalayangan, Bauang, La Union. One of his injured helpers were named as Jefferson Dulay, 26, native of Aringay, La Union and residing in Upper Pinget, Baguio City while the other helper remains unidentified.
Initial police investigation showed the driver of the water delivery truck who was named as Camar Abdul Marcos Camza, 36 years old, married, driver, native and resident of Slide, Tuding, Itogon, Benguet parked his vehicle on the shoulder of the road to buy some automotive lubrecants in a shop but he reportedly forgot to shut off the engine.
The vehicle suddenly rolled and rammed into the road roller where the victims were on board before ramming over four other vehicles parked along the road.
The occupants of the road roller were rushed to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) for medical treatment but Mario was declared dead on the spot.
The driver was invited by the responding police operatives to face the various charges to be filed against him before the provincial prosecutor’s office.
