ATOK, Benguet – Two people died while twelve others were injured when a fully loaded Baguio-bound Ford Fierra that lost its brakes allegedly collided with a van that came from an opposite direction at Km. 49, Paoay, here, Tuesday.
Police authorities identified the fatalities as Efren Cawa Dawagui, 42, driver, resident of Lengaoan, Buguias, Benguet and Paulo N. Licnad while their companion in the ill-fated jeep named as Roselyn Bulayo, 25, single, and a resident of Kias, Baguio City and 11 occupants of the van were injured as a result of the collision.
Initial police investigation showed that the Fierra was negotiating the wet descending portion of the road when the driver allegedly lost control of his vehicle due to its reported heavy load that caused it to collide with the approaching van driven by a certain Nino Abbago Briones, 26, married, pastor, and a resident of Manaoag, Pangasinan.
Responding police operatives and rescuers immediately rushed the victims to the Atok District Hospital but the fatalities were dead on arrival while the injured individuals are undergoing close medical supervision for the injuries they sustained due to the said accident.
