TABUK CITY, Kalinga October 17 – Two local tourists were arrested by combined police operatives and anti-narcotics agents after they attempted to transport more than P2.4 million worth of marijuana at a police checkpoint in barangay Naneng, here, recently.
Police authorities identified the arrested marijuana couriers as Mhark Yuzon, 21 years old, from Tondo, Manila; and Jess De Guzman, 49 years old, from Novaliches, Quezon City.
Probers disclosed that they received an information from the 2nd Kalinga Provincial Mobile Force Company that a vehicle reportedly evaded their established checkpoint at barangay Dinakan, Lubuagan town.
Police personnel from the Tabuk city Police Office immediately responded to the said information and they were able to intercept the said vehicle in an established police checkpoint in the aforesaid area.
However, de Guzman was able to immediately leave their vehicle leaving his companion Yuson behind.
Police operatives immediately chased the fleeing de Guzman while other personnel took Yuzon in their custody and started inspecting the alarmed vehicle.
Upon inspection of the said vehicle, the operatives were able to discover some 17 pieces of marijuana bricks weighing more than 17,000 grams with a standard drug price amounting to more than P2 million.
De Guzman was able to be successfully collared by the responding police operatives in the said barangay.
The arrested suspects and confiscated marijuana bricks were immediately brought to the Tabuk city Police Office for documentation and proper disposition as well as the filing of the charges for violation of Republic Act (RA) 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Law against them.
