LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – It will be all systems go for the simple but meaningful celebration of the 35th Charter anniversary of the State-run Benguet State University (BSU) on January 12-15, 2021.
BSU president Dr. Felipe S. Comila stated that this year’s celebration was scaled down because of the prevailing implementation of the health and safety protocols to contain the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus Diseases 2019 (COVID-19) within its campuses.
He said stated that the theme of this year’s Charter anniversary is BSU CARES which represents his flagship programs, projects and activities anchored on challenge innovation, advance technology and facilities, revitalized administration, engender partnership and serve to sustain inter-generational roles.
The Charter anniversary activities will kick off with the traditional press conference on Thursday, January 7, 2021, 10 am to 12 noon, which will be held at the Shimumura Park where BSU officials will expound on the short- medium and long-term programs of the institution that will help in elevating the status of the state university in the global village.
During the Charter Day celebration which falls on January 12, 2021, the activities will start with a fun run from 5 am to 7 am.
Further, the fun run will be followed by the formal investiture of Dr. Comila as the 7th University President which will be held at the BSU closed gymnasium with strict adherence to prevailing health and safety protocols.
The Investiture Program will start with a Thanksgiving Mass which will be followed by the formal program where expected guests will be Chairperson Prospero de Vera of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Agriculture Secretary William Dar, Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Yap and provincial and municipal officials as well as other surprise guests from the national government.
In the afternoon of January 21, 2021, the activities include the awarding of memorabilia to the institution’s loyalty awardees who were able to serve the state university for 40, 35, 30, 25, 20, 15 and 10 years which will be followed by the so-called Social and Cultural Night which will all be held at the BSU closed gymnasium.
On January 13, 2021, the activities include a tree planting event within the property of the higher education institution which will be followed by the virtual launching of student activities.
People will also have a chance to have a glimpse of the display of BSU products and the One Town, One Product (OTOP) of the 13 municipalities which will be displayed at the BSU closed gymnasium from January 13-15, 2021.
On January 14-15, 2021, there will be a series of faculty that will be spearheaded by the Faculty Club under the leadership of Dr. Imelda Olatic-Degay which will be held at the College of Teacher Education (CTE) function hall.
On January 15, 2021, a bloodletting even will be held at the Anthurium Hall from 9 am to 2 pm while the simple but meaningful ceremonies will close with a virtual program under the stewardship of the Federation of Supreme Student Government (FSSG).
Comila appealed to the public to understand the strict imposition of basic health and safety protocols in the conduct of the Charter anniversary activities.
