MANKAYAN, Benguet – Some sixty-one junior and senior high school students of the Guinaoang National High School recently underwent a two-day campus journalism training to help hone their writing skills and their nose for the news.
The said campus journalism training was conducted by the Guinaoang National High School in partnership with Guinaoang barangay and the Itogon Suyoc Resources, Inc. (ISRI) which is undertaking exploration in the locality.
Ma. Teresa L. Pacis, assistant vice president for corporate communications of Apex Mining Company, Inc., mother company of ISRI, led the training team in helping the upcoming writes into the various aspects of campus journalism, new writing, basic photography and captioning and in putting up a campus paper for the public high school within one of the company’s impacted barangay.
The students actively participated in the writing and photography workshops which were designed to cull out their interest in writing for them to become effective and efficient campus journalists in the future.
Further, most of the upcoming young campus journalists expressed their interest to be equipped with the sufficient writing skills for them to become well-rounded writers and photographers in the future.
Gunaoang punong barangay James Guanzo, Jr. lauded the officers and teachers of the Guinaoang National High School for initiating the aforesaid campus journalism training for their students as the same will greatly help in the development of the writing skills of the interested students for them to be guided in selecting their right profession in the future.
Pacis assured the school and barangay officials that ISRI will try to mentor the selected campus journalists for them to be able to be guided in the various aspects of journalism with the hope that many of them will be convinced and encourage to embrace journalism as their profession for them to become effective communicators of the truth in the future.
