BONTOC, Mountain Province – A ranking police official died after he was shot to death by three still unidentified armed assailants in front of his residence at Eyeb, here, Sunday night.
Police authorities identified the fatality as Chief Inspector Benjamin Falangon Challoy 40, married an official of the Highway Patrol Group based in Mountain Province.
Initial investigation showed witnesses hear successive gunshots that emanated from the victim’s residence and then saw three still unidentified male persons running towards the direction of a house nearby.
The victim was rushed to the Bontoc General Hospital for medical treatment but he was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians who were able to recover from his body three slugs of a calibre .45 pistol which was believed to have been used by the suspects in the perpetration of the crime.
Responding police operatives recovered from the crime scene six spent shells of a calibre .45 pistol. The motive of the incident is still being established by probers.
