BAGUIO CITY – A 36-year old pregnant woman died after she was bumped by a city-bound truck in front of a mall along Naguilian road here shortly before noon Friday.
Senior Superintendent Rolando F. Miranda, officer-in-charge of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), identified the fatality as Jonalyn Bristol Fernandez, 36, an office clerk of a water refilling station, a resident of Upper Quezon Hill, Baguio city, who was said to be seven months pregnant.
Initial police investigation showed that the truck driven by Jayson Laway Guay, 31, married, driver and a native of Ambuclao, Bokod, Benguet was on its way to the city proper when it accidentally bumped the victim while in front of a mall along Naguilian Road.
The victim was immediately rushed by responding rescuers and concerned residents to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) for medical treatment bugt he was later pronounced dead several hours later because of serious head and body injuries.
However, her baby was reportedly saved through caesarean section surgery and now under the intensive care unit of the hospital for further observation.
The truck driver was brought to the BCPO headquarters for inquest of the case reckless imprudence resulting to homicide that will be filed against him before the city prosecutor’s office.
